The Cruel Prince Spoiler Free Review

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)Title: The Cruel Prince
Author: Holly Black
Series: The Folk of the Air #1
My rating: 4.5/5 stars
Date Read: 3/3/18

I have been seeing the Cruel Prince all over all social media platforms I use so I decided to finally pick it up. I chose to read The Darkest Part of the Forest first which is also by Holly Black and I would recommend it. There are some cameos. I did enjoy this book a lot more than that book though.

The Cruel Prince is told in first person and we follow the point of view of Jude. She is a mortal, has a twin sister, and a sister who is fae. She witnesses her parents murder when she was young and was raised by their murderer in the fae world. We follow Jude several years later and she still is living in the fae relm. She does not fit in with the fae and due to her being mortal, many of them despise her.

The second half of the book was definitely better than the first. The beginning was slow but since this is a first book in a series, duology, trilogy, I honestly have no clue, it is understandable since it takes time to develop the world and characters. The world though is my favorite aspect of the story. I loved it so much and it was so cool and different from the faerie world we are use to.

The characters are not my favorite characters in the world but they are interesting to read about. I think they are suppose to be unlikable because I found many of them unlikable characters but I do want to know what happens to them as the series or whatever this is, goes on.

I was very invested in the story especially in the second half. I could not put the book down because I had to know what was going to happen next. So many things happen that you want to know what is going to go on next.

Overall I highly recommend The Cruel Prince. I would recommend for the people who go into hyped books with extremely high expectations to wait for the hype to die down a bit before reading because the hype will probably impact your enjoyment of the book. I will be sure to read the sequel and I absolutely love this book.

Clockwork Angel (Spoiler Free) Review

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)Title: Clockwork Angel
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Infernal Devices #1
My rating: 5/5 stars
Date Reread: 2/22/18

I planned on rereading all the shadowhunter related books before the release of Queen of Air and Darkness and I still have many more to go. Clockwork Angel is the first book in the Infernal Devices trilogy which is my favorite Cassandra Clare series but The Dark Artifices are catching up. I really enjoyed this reread and would still give it 5 stars.

Clockwork Angel should be read before the last 3 books in the TMI series. In fact you should read all 3 of these books before reading the last three TMI books to avoid spoilers.

Clockwork Angel is a historical paranormal book following a girl name Tessa Gray. She travels to London to live with her brother. When she is arrived she is greeted by two ladies called the Dark Sisters who sort of kidnap her and force her to learn to control an ability she never knew she had before. She is later found and taken to the London Institute where she meets the people who run it called Shadowhunters. All this happens in the very beginning.

This book does have a love triangle, however this is the only love triangle that I actually like. I really like both of the love interests and honestly don't care which one the main character ends up with.

An underappreciated character in this series in my opinion is Charlotte. As a women running an institute during that time period she gets some hate for it even though she is doing everything to the best of her ability. In my opinion she is doing a very good job. I also really like her husband Henry. The one thing I really like about his character is that he is passionate about inventing things and it continues throughout the story and the series.

I still am not the biggest fan of Jessamine and I would say is is one of my least favorite characters in the book.

I do like Will and Jem. Their friendship is very strong and they care so much about each other. It is nice to see some strong friendships in books because I feel like we do not have enough of them.

Overall really enjoyed rereading this book and I of course highly recommend this trilogy.

March Wrap -Up (2018)

March has been a very good reading month. I read a total of 7 books. I also enjoyed all but one of the books this month which is very good.

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)The first book I finished was the Cruel Prince by Holly Black which I gave a 4.5/5 stars. I have been seeing this book everywhere. I heard this book was amazing, and I heard that it was over hyped. I decided to pick this book up to see where I fell on the scale and am so glad to say I really enjoyed it. This book has to do faeries. The main character Jude was interesting in a good and bad way. My favorite thing about the book was the world and the world building. The Cruel Prince follows a human name Jude who's parents were killed by her half sister's fae biological father. Jude and her twin are not fae. She is raised in faerie with her sisters my the murderer. Overall I do recommend this book.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)The next book I read was Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Lani Taylor. This is one of the top ten books I wanted to read this year. I cannot believe it took me so long to read because I loved it so much. I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing about it despite hearing about this book everywhere. I am glad I did go into it blindly because it helped me enjoy this book more. I liked the main character Karou and found her story very interesting. My one complaint is that the extremely long flashback at the end was really boring and I wanted to skip it. I did not though and I am glad I did not because that flashback was very important. I cannot wait to continue on with this series and read other books by Lani Taylor. I gave this book 4 stars.

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2)
My next read was a reread and that is Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. I am behind on my reread of all of the Shadowhunter books but that is okay. I plan on reading the majority of them in the summer time. This is the second book in the Infernal Devices trilogy which is my favorite out of all the Shadowhunter books. I love Tessa, Will, and Jem and I am so excited to continue my reread. I am picking up so many things I did not see the first time I read this book. This is one of my all time favorite series and I gave this book 5 stars.

The Perks of Being a WallflowerI finally read the Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky this month. I feel like everyone but me has read it. This book is told in letters following a boy name Charlie's freshmen year in high school. I loved this book and am so glad I read it. Charlie was such a good character and I wanted the best for him. I love how friendship and family was very important in this book and I do recommend this book. I gave this book 4/5 stars.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First SightThe next book is the one book I read this month that I did not like and that is The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith. I gave this book 1/5 stars. I wanted to love this book and I did enjoy her other book This is What Happy Looks Like and I thought I would like this. This book is very instalovy as you can see by the title. My biggest problem was the writing style. The Statistical Probability of Love at Fist Sight is written in first person in present tense which is the writing style that I struggle to read the most. The writing style made the story a bit awkward and I did not like the main character. Overall not the book for me.

Traitor to the Throne (Rebel of the Sands, #2)I finally continued on with the Rebel of the Sands trilogy and read Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton. This book is a lot longer than I thought. The first one is around 300-350 pages I think. This one is slightly over 500 pages. Yep. A lot longer. I did like this book and I gave it 3.5/5 stars. I really like the characters and the setting. This trilogy takes place in a desert. There is magic and the main character Amani is a sharp shooter. Even though so far this series is not the best fantasy story I have read, I really want to continue with it and see what happens next because it is very entertaining and interesting.

Click'dThe final book I read last month is my one 5 star read and that is Click'd by Tamara Ireland Stone. This is a middle grade book following a young girl who is interested in coding and creates her own app called Click'd over the summer. She is going to enter a competition along with her rival who also has his own app. The main character Allie's app spreads through the school like wildfire and  she finds a glitch that she has to fix. This was the book I needed at the moment when I read it. I love the characters and the story and it was really cute. Definitely an underrated book. Also can I just say that the school's phone policy is very realistic.

Those were the books I read in the month of March. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you in my next post!

Popular Books I Have Not Read Read 2.0

Since I finally read most of the books on my last popular books/series I have not read yet I thought I would do another one of these. I plan on reading most of these this year. I am not including sequels to popular series I have started because that would make this post even longer.

Renegades (Renegades, #1)The first on I have to talk about is Renegades by Marissa Meyer and I have no idea why I have not read this book yet. The Lunar Chronicles is one of my all time favorite series and I also loved Heartless. I even owned a signed copy of the book. The cover of the book gives me super hero vibes. In this book the Renegades have powers and they use it for the good while the Anarchists have powers that are not good? I have no idea but it is something along those lines but I do know that the main character Nova is an Anarchist who hates the Renegades.

I'll Give You the Sun
The next book is more of an older release and that is I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. This book is about twins that use to be very close and are no longer very close. We follow both their point of views. I think one of them takes place when they were practically best friends and the other takes place in the future when they no longer see each other. I am not sure but the concept sounds cool and I heard great things about this book and I think I am going to like it a lot.

The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1)
I heard about this book so much but I still have no idea what it is about. That book is The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, the first book in the Mistborn series. I heard nothing but great things about this book and practically every fantasy lover has read it. Fantasy is my favorite genre and I still have not read it. It may be because it is intimidating. I mean there are many books in the series. I do want to read it this year and I hope I do.

Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)On my last list I said I have not read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Lani Taylor yet and I still have not. However I am going to read it in March. The next book is another one by Lani Taylor and that is Strange the Dreamer. The cover is gorgeous, both the UK and US, and the concept sounds cool. The main character is really interested in this mysterious city that vanished called Weep and wants to discover what happened to the city. I heard nothing but great things about this book and I saw it made a lot of people's favorite books of 2017 list.

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide, #1)Another book I have not read yet is The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee and I honestly had very little interest in it. However due to everyone talking about it and the cover reveal for the sequel or companion (not sure) the book is starting to peak my interest. I know we have a diverse cast of characters. The main character Monty I believe likes his best friend Percy. I also know he, Percy, and Monty's sister Felicity are together traveling together or something like that. I don't know but it is a historical fiction that everyone says is good. I also heard this book has some laugh out loud moments. Just writing this post makes me want to pick it up now.

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)The next book I am talking about is one that I am iffy on reading. I don't know whether or not I will pick it up because I think this book is a you love it or you hate it and that is Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I have read Illuminae which he co wrote with Amie Kaufman and I did not enjoy it at all. I want to give this book a chance but I am not that interested in it. I do not know why I am not interested in it I just am not. Maybe I will read it. Maybe I won't. Right now is a nope though. Feel free to try to convince me to read it though because I have been swaying back and forth between want to read and not wanting to read it.

Those are some of the popular series I have not read yet. Have you read any of them? Let me know some of the popular series you have not read yet.
